THE TEN COMMANDMENTS DEFENSE ACT
Dear Congress:
I urge you to pass legislation to legalize the posting of the
Ten
Commandments and to enforce our Bill of Rights First Amendment
and our Constitution which guarantees us freedom
OF religion, not freedom FROM religion.
We have suffered too long from minority splinter groups who
want every mention of God destroyed from our nation.
We have endured judges who have misinterpreted
our First Amendment. We appeal to you in Congress to pass legislation
to make it clear that it is legal to post the Ten Commandments
in public schools, public buildings, government
buildings and by individuals or groups on their
private property. We want it to be clearly legal for our school
children to be able to read and memorize God's Ten Commandments
so that they have opportunity to learn the Ten Commandments and
possibly choose
to obey them so that they will be better citizens of our free
republic. We recognize that The Ten Commandments
were the basis of our moral and legal codes and should continue to be that foundation.
Our Founders declared their faith in God in the Declaration
of Independence when they used the expressions "Laws
of Nature's and of Nature's God, that all Men
are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,
... by appealing to the Supreme Judge of the World,
And for the support of this Declaration, with
a firm Reliance on the Protection of divine Providence we mutually
pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred
Honor." They dated their documents with further acknowledgement
of their faith in God by stating, "In the Year of Our Lord, July 4,1776".
Our Founders forbid Congress to prohibit the free expression
of religion.
States have the right to make laws to express their religious
faith as guaranteed by Amendment X of our Bill
of Rights. We, hereby, ask Congress to re-legalize the right of states and
individuals
to post the Ten Commandments in whatever form they so choose.
